Ilikai Waikiki Hotel
The Ilikai Waikiki Hotel is a classic deluxe 3-acre oceanfront hotel property situated on the Ala Wai Yacht Marina at the edge of Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii, approximately five miles east of the Honolulu International Airport.
Developed by legendary, self-made entrepreneur, Chinn Ho, and designed by world-renowned architect, John Graham, whose credits also include Seattle’s Space Needle, the 125,296 square foot, three-winged Y-shaped Ilikai is an architectural landmark. Its angular lines, innovative use of pre-cast/pre-stressed concrete, and its white and turquoise façade truly set it apart.
Standing 30-stories high with a glass elevator that was one of the highest-reaching in the world when built, the Ilikai opened its doors in February 1964 with 1,050 guest rooms and condominium apartments, and was bestowed the title, “the first luxury high-rise hotel in Hawaii.” This truly unique property offers guests some of the most dramatic ocean and city views in Hawaii, and world class dining and shopping within walking distance.
After over $27 million dollars in enhancements completed in 2002, 343 rooms at the Ilikai became available for conversion to condominiums to selected developers, including Anekona Islander, LLC, and its partner, Network Development Partners, LLC. Landwin and Fremont Insurance Company are lenders to this group, which plans to begin the conversion project in late 2007/early 2008.
